On the Ground: Unite the Triangle to Rebuild Palestine

26 SEPTEMBER 2024 | 6 pm – 8:30 pm ET

The ongoing Israeli genocide in Palestine continues to destroy infrastructure and lives. Duke Academics and Staff for Justice in Palestine (DASJP), a group of academics and staff dedicated to Palestinian liberation through organizing efforts in and outside the university, held a fundraiser for Palestinian organizations urgently working to meet the survival and university education needs of Palestinians in Gaza or recently dislocated from Gaza.

The in-person On the Ground event was graciously hosted by NorthStar Church of the Arts on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 6 pm – 8:30 pm ET in Durham, North Carolina.

Together, we raised over $17,600. All funds raised beyond the delimited overhead costs of the in-person event went directly to the United Palestinian Appeal and were directed in two ways: The Mahmoud Darwish Scholarship Fund, which allows students from Gaza to pursue higher education in Palestinian universities in the West Bank, and an emergency relief fund to provide food, medicine, water, and other supplies to meet the immediate survival needs of Palestinians in Gaza.

The event at NorthStar included food donated by International Delights Restaurant, performances by local artists including Hayat Al-Dabka, a silent auction, remarks from Palestinian activists, and an opportunity to learn more about the efforts funded to support Palestinians on the ground to survive and rebuild their lives.

Whether or not a donor checks the privacy box when purchasing a ticket or making a Handala donation, we will keep all donor names confidential.

United Palestinian Appeal, a trusted 501(c)3 founded in 1978 to help Palestinians meet relief and development needs, is ensuring that our donations reach their intended beneficiaries. Duke ASJP extends our sincere thanks to NorthStar Church of the Arts, International Delights Restaurant, Hayat Al-Dabka and all community members who attended this event or supported from afar.
